Agape Service Project

Fostering service, community, and prayer in our middle school youth!

Since 2004, middle schoolers from St. Joseph Parish have been serving the migrant community in Whatcom County (in and around Bellingham, Washington) as part of the Agape Service Project. The Agape Service Project fosters service, community, and prayer as participants encounter Christ and uphold the dignity of our migrant brothers and sisters.

Our students build relationships with the families at the Wednesday Food Bank in Lynden. We’ve donated hundreds of new backpacks filled with school supplies to any Kindergarten through college age youth in need. We’ve opened our hearts to the children at Sunrise Migrant Camp, serving meals and playing games in the August sunshine.

Through of these experiences of service, our students begin to understand that being part of a Jesuit parish and school will incarnate in them a life-long practice of being Committed to Doing Justice, continuing to answer the call of Christ throughout their adult lives. The Agape Service Project creates a space where our youth can grow in their faith and meet Jesus through prayer, service, and people.

The cost to attend the Agape Service Project is $400. Partial scholarships are available to families encountering financial hardships. Youth Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.

Adult Leaders/Chaperones:
We are required to bring 1 adult of each gender for the first eight youth, and 1 adult for each additional youth. Because it is an overnight, we will also need a minimum of 2 adults of each gender. This is in accordance with Archdiocesan Parish Youth Ministry Service Guidelines. If you are interested in attending Agape as an adult chaperone, please review the Adult Leaders Welcome Packet.
