Funerals & Memorials

Honoring and Celebrating Life

Please let us know right away if a member of our parish community has died. We grieve with you and want to help any way we can. Know that it is first and foremost in our minds and hearts to hold your family in our prayers.

Please contact Deacon Steve as soon as possible. He can be reached at (206) 965-1646.

As an historic parish, St. Joseph has served generations of Seattleites and our extended family is nearly boundless. If you or your loved one was or is an active member of St. Joseph Parish, we are available to assist you in planning an appropriate funeral Mass or memorial celebration.

Funerals and memorials are not sacraments per se but rather a liturgical celebration of the Church, for the life of the deceased. As such, the Rite of Christian Burial recalls the baptism of our loved one and our gratitude for the consolation of the Resurrection.

The gift of faith, witnessed in the celebration of the Eucharist, speaks powerfully at times of loss and grieving. Thus, a funeral in the context of a Mass is preferred.
