Climate Justice

St. Joseph Parish is dedicated to following the priorities of Laudato Si', Pope Francis' encyclical calling for all to commit to caring for our common home, Earth. An intiative of the Faith Justice Commission, Climate Justice at St. Joe's involves many projects and collaborations, as well as creating a culture of sustainability. 

St. Joe's is a member of the local Climate Care Network, the national Catholic Climate Covenant, and the international Laudato Si' Movement. We regularly collaborate with St. James Cathedral, the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center, and the Archdiocese of Seattle to promote sustainable practices and political advocacy to combat climate change, which we name as the most urgent crisis threatening human existence. 

In additional to commemorating Earth Day, Laudato Si' week, and the Season of Creation, we are a green campus, fully committed to sustainable practices like composting, energy-efficient utilities, and electric replacement of gasoline. 

We also recognize that Climate Change most violently affects the most vulnerable people on earth, and are committed to recognizing our privilege and not centering ourselves when advocating for policy change.
