Participating in the Mass
Scroll down for sign up form!
Sign up now for the new school year! Serving at the altar is a great way for our youth to be actively involved at St. Joseph. Open to all parish youth from 6th to 8th grade (new for the 2015-2016 school year), participation begins with a year-long commitment to this important ministry.
During the first year of service your daughter or son will become more familiar with the rites and rituals of the Church, while at the same time enjoying more active participation during Sunday Mass. Second and third year members become lead servers, as they become more comfortable with the ministry and are able to jump in to help whenever and wherever the need arises. Additionally, senior members can return to St. Joseph during their high school years to captain Mass teams while also, possibly, earning their service hours at various schools.
Beginning in 2015, members who attend St. Joseph School will also enjoy the age-old benefit of being excused from class once in a while to serve at the altar during large funerals - of course, only with the permission of parents and teachers. The highlight of each year will be serving at the Christmas and Easter Masses.
Server responsibilities include:
- signing up for various Masses
- carrying the processional cross
- preparing the altar during the Offertory
- assisting the presider with the missal
- assuring a smooth flow to the liturgy.
