Infant Baptism

You have put on Christ!

Congratulations on the newest member of your family! Through the sacrament of baptism, your children are welcomed into the family of God and receive new life through water and the Holy Spirit. They become children of God and members of Christ’s own body, the church, and are given the grace to participate in Christ’s mission. Here at St. Joseph, we are so pleased that you have chosen baptism for your child and look forward to working with you.

There are several steps involved in the process of Infant Baptism. If your child is newborn to six years old, the first step is completing Infant Baptism Preparation for Parents & Godparents. The United States Bishops require the equivalent of 4 hours of preparation. Godparents are encouraged to attend a class at their church, or they may attend the class here at St. Joseph’s.

We have 6-7 classes, held throughout the year on Sunday afternoons in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.

We welcome anyone in the area who may need classes to register for our Infant Baptism Preparation class. If you have taken a class within the last 3 years, you do not need to take more. Please make sure to contact Theresa Shepherd-Lukasik if you have questions about class requirements in the Seattle Archdiocese.

The second step is your scheduling your child’s baptism during one of our weekend Masses. Please make sure you have previously registered with St. Joseph Parish as a parishioner if you are seeking baptism here. To register click here.

The third step, we will need your child’s Catholic Godparents to verify membership in a Catholic parish, that they are 16 years or older, a practicing Catholic, and have received all three sacraments of initiation i.e.. Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

The fourth step is completing all the paperwork. We need the information form filled out, the Godparent form verified by their parish, and your child’s birth certificate to confirm the information form is correct.
