Children's Baptism

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for Children

For children under the age of six, the parents and Godparents are prepared through our infant baptism classes, which take place 6-7 times a year. If the child is four through six years of age, we will do one short prep with the child just so they know why they are being baptized. This is done case by case with the PA of Children’s Faith Formation or with the Director of Faith Formation.

For children from age seven and 2nd grade, the program of baptismal preparation may also include our 1st and 2nd grade classes for First Communion and First Reconciliation. These classes take place each week from October through May. Children who are preparing for baptism need to be baptized in the spring/summer between 1st and 2nd grade.

For youth who are beyond 2nd grade, we will go through a program of Christian Initiation which has been adapted for young people. The youth will then receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist during the Easter Season.  We also recommend that young people preparing for full initiation at Easter be enrolled in the faith formation class of their grade level to build community with others at the parish and continue their ongoing faith formation.

Children and youth ages 8-17, will need formation adapted for their particular needs, please contact our faith formation staff and we will discern how best to proceed.
